Brethren of the sponsoring Lodge, Berkhampsted No. 504, formed the majority of the sixteen Founder Members gathered at The Red Lion Hotel, High Bamet, shortly before Christmas 1889, for the consecration of, what was then, the nineteenth Lodge in the Province, by the then Provincial Grand Master, T F Halsey. The Lodge is named after Master James Ravenscroft, a merchant of High Holborn, who in 1679 founded Jesus Hospital at Chipping Barnet and who later that year, endowed the Parish Church.
