The hamlet of Medburn which consists of two farms and a few cottages stands about one mile to the south of Radlett, and the name is taken from the Saxon meaning Middle Burn or Break. It derived this name from the brook or stream which ran from the Aldenham lake now a reservoir  on the higher ground as an outlet through to the Tykeswater which runs through Radlett.

The present Medburn Lodge House was the eastern entrance to the Lord Aldenham Estate and is the Lodge House from which the emblem is derived.
