The idea to form a Lodge at Hartsbourne Golf & Country Club came from several Golfing members who were masons, in particular W. Bro. Martin Hollis, (the First Worshipful Master of Hartsbourne Lodge) , W. Bro. Gerald Tankel, W. Bro. Steven Schaffer and W. Bro. Laurie Gerrard

A committee led by then Provincial Grand Secretary of Hertfordshire, W Bro. Derrick Flowers,  inspected the premises and plans which met the criteria and they offered their full support to forward the project and have supported the lodge well since its Consecration. .

Particularly gratifying, was that masons who had drifted away from regular attendance at their mother lodges, were attracted to the idea of having a lodge at their very own golf club, among their friends and acquaintances and with the benefit of first class catering facilities and easy parking.  Additionally it was a delight to found a Lodge in our home County andProvinceofHertfordshire.

The Consecration took place at Great Queen Streeton 4th. November 1998, conducted by R W Bro. Michael Batham Jones, then Provincial Grand Master, and his team of Consecrating Officers, which included the present Provincial Grand Master, R W Bro Colin Harris, who acted as Director of Ceremonies.

Thus was born Hartsbourne Lodge No. 9680, whose badge reflects its Hertfordshire home; two opposing harts taken from the Coat of Arms of Hertfordshire with the apt motto for Freemasons, ‘Nothing But Loyalty.’

In the thirteen years since Consecration there have been 22 initiates and 39 joining members. Sadly, 8 members have been called to the Grand Lodge above, but we cherish their memory and remember them fondly.

Hartsbourne’s has always prided itself on the high standard of its ritual (Taylors) and this is due to the diligence and dedication of the Lodge Preceptors, W Bro. Dennis Rodbert & W Bro Alan Carmel, whose pursuit of excellence over many years has brought out the very best in the members.

However, it is in its dedication to the charitable aspect of masonry that Hartsbourne Lodge can rightly take most pride.  In the course of the last thirteen years, the Lodge has raised and distributed over ninety thousand pounds to Masonic and non Masonic charities, an effort of which the members are justifiably proud!
