At a meeting in Hitchin Conservative Club, the Founders were able to persuade the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W Bro G B W Kent, TD that despite the cluster of Lodges in this geographical area, there was a need for a Saturday Lodge to cater for residents of Hertford who commuted to London and who wished to establish Masonic roots in the County. Saturday meetings were preferred by some who lived and worked locally and would help in reducing the stress factor. The name Codicote was chosen by a former resident and because of its historic significance.
