The Lodge was consecrated at Frascati's Restaurant, Oxford Street, London, by the Rt. Hon and RW Bro Thomas F Halsey, Deputy Grand Master and Provincial Grand Master of Hertfordshire. There were twenty five Founder Members and the first regular meeting was held on 7th April 1909 at a registered meeting place at The Red Lion Hotel, Hatfield, with a Dispensation not to initiate more than fifteen candidates. Between then, and the next installation on July 1910, sixty four candidates had been initiated into the Lodge. In 1922, Abbey Lodge 'Class of Improvement' was formed at Columbo's Restaurant, London.

To commemorate the Lodge's 21st Anniversary, a notice on the summons was to donate 100 Guineas to The Royal ‘ Masonic Hospital. This was unanimously rejected in favour of an amendment that the donation be 200 Guineas. One interesting fact is that there are six fathers and sons, and one father‘s grandson in the Lodge (1996). In 1953, the first son of a Member, W. Bro James Bates was given the cherished privilege of occupying the Chair to Install his son, R J Bates, as Master of the Lodge. This was followed in 1955 and 1956 by W. Bro  Gold and W. Bro Arghebant.

The Lodge now meets at Southgate Masonic Centre.
