Annual Golf Day a Huge Success but other events disappointing
The number of entries in the Halsey Cup was again disappointing with only 14 Lodges represented while the Underhill Cup attracted only 35 pairs. I personally do not think it is worth the effort in organising these Competitions for these numbers.
I would however welcome any suggestions to increase the popularity of these competitions.
The Annual Golf Day on July 13 was a huge success and we were allowed by the Chesfield Golf Club to increase our limit on entries from 64 to 70. For the first time in many years some late applications for entry had to be refused. The Royal Arch executive were extremely supportive with the Provincial Grand Superintendent, John Ilott, the Second Grand Principal, Ian Clift and the Provincial Scribe, Philip Lever competing.
The presentation dinner was again attended by 80 players and guests. The trophies were presented to the winners of the various competitions by the Past Grand Superintendent, Alec Fuller who was accompanied by Mrs Fuller.
Competition winners were:
E. Alec Fuller Cup - Colin Taylor (Cloisters Chapter).
Colin, who is the Deputy Provincial Grand Secretary successfully defended this trophy and could easily become known as ‘Robin Taylor – Bandit of Chesfield Golf Club’ in the future.
Chant Cup - Roy Kitchener (Wm. Hamilton Underhill Lodge)
Moffett Memorial Cup - Mark Lemon (Welwyn Garden City Lodge).
Sidney Tuck Cup - Jay Patel and Jayesh Padania (Berkhampstead Chapter).
Lewis Cup- Placid Gonzales and Mark Lemon (Welwyn Garden City Lodge).
Alexander Woods Cup - Harry Valentine (Tring Lodge)
My sincere thanks go to the Royal Arch Executive for supporting and publicising the event as they did which in no small way contributed to its success. My thanks also to Alec and Mrs. Fuller and Alan and Mrs. Ward for giving up their valuable time to support us.
To date we have only played one of our inter provincial matches when we defeated Bedfordshire by a very convincing margin. My thanks to the players who support the provincial team.
The date and venue for this year’s competition day(s) will be announced in the next edition of Provincial News.
