History of the Lodge
The idea of a new Lodge was conceived in 1991 by friends who regularly met socially for a drink and a chat at The Conservative Club in Hoddesdon. The name 'Stanboroughs' originates from the name of the building where the Lodge was conceived and the Petitioners' Meetings held. The Lodge Crest is a representation of the front elevation of the building and the Badge represents the Borough of Broxboume in which Stanboroughs House is situated. The motto 'Patience and Industry Will Entitle' is well known to Master Masons reflecting the time and effort required in producing something worthwhile such as the Founding of a new Lodge
News from the Lodge
This Lodge has recently undertaken three separate charitable projects all of which are spawned from our involvement in the Freemasonry in the Community Week initiative of last year.
It was felt by all the members of the Lodge that following on from the success and enjoyment of last years project that we should continue to promote Freemasonry in action in the Community this year and several projects have been undertaken.
Firstly, the Lodge having heard that a book was being written regarding the life and times of a very colourful Police Officer in Essex ‑ PC Micky Page ‑ who sadly had recently died of cancer aged 42. The author of the book ‑ PC Chris Caten also a serving Police Officer in Essex and both being Freemasons wanted to write this book in his memory and all proceeds from the sale of the book going to support Cancer Charity. However funding for the publishing costs of the book were urgently needed so this Lodge sent a contribution of £250.00 to assist in this most worthwhile endeavour.
Secondly, as a follow up to our involvement last year of holding a children's party for the physically and mentally disabled children of the Amwell View School a number of members of the Lodge took part and assisted in helping with the Annual Summer Fayre held at the school on Saturday the 12ffi June 2003. Once again the event was a great success, held in glorious sunshine and very well attended. The event not only provided a splendid days enjoyment for the children with numerous activities going on but also raised a substantial sum of money for the schools charity which was topped up by a donation from this Lodge of £500.00. The enclosed photos show the Worshipful Master of the Lodge presenting the cheque for £500.00 to the headmistress of the school ‑ Mrs Jan Liversage who gave a very appreciative and heartfelt thank you speech on behalf of the school for all the help and assistance given to the school by the Lodge members and for the most generous donation to the schools charity.
Thirdly, as our adopted cause for this year the Lodge hosted a Garden Party and Barbeque for the elderly residents of the Fourfields Care Home in Cheshunt. This event held on Saturday the 12"' July 2003 was a great success and again held in beautiful weather with the 54 elderly residents, some of their families and the staff of the home all enjoying a splendid afternoon of music, singing and entertainment as well as a sumptuous barbeque meal prepared by members of the Lodge and their wives. Each elderly resident was presented with a keepsake memento of the day which was a beautiful personalised bookmark from the Lodge and the eldest resident of the home a Mrs Edith Allen ( better known as "Dolly" ) aged 101 was presented with a basket of flowers by the Worshipful Master. In attendance was also the Mayor of Broxbourne ‑ Mr Charles Tranharn accompanied by the Lady Mayoress. Mr Tranharn made a speech thanking the Masons for their efforts and praising the Lodge for its commitment to serving and helping the Community and those less fortunate. The Lodge presented the Mayor, Mr Charles Tranharn with a donation of £100.00 as a donation to the Mayors Charity Fund for this year which is in aid of the Isabel Children’s Hospice. The Mayor was overwhelmed by this most generous gesture and made a very appreciate thank you speech. It was a most successful and enjoyable day to which every member of the Lodge contributed. Enclosed please find photos of the event some showing the Worshipful Master, W Bro Clive Cox, presenting the flowers to Mrs Edith Alien, and also the presentation of £100.00 to the Mayor Charles Tranham as a donation to his selected Charity, the Isabel Children's Hospice.
