History bestowed the accolade of Charter Master on the historian by the accidental remark made to a group of friends after the consecration of a new Lodge. 'There's nothing in it' he remarked with his usual optimism, 'All you have to do is to follow the drill. I do not see how they can refuse you'. 'Well' said his friends 'As you are so bright why don't you form one'. 'Alright', he said, 'and I'll call it New Era', and promptly forgot about it. He was reminded a few days later that the friends were anxious to get started. The result was that the New Era Lodge was consecrated at the Halsey Masonic Hall, Cheshunt.

When the Lodge was founded, all interest was solely concerned with Grand Lodge and Provincial Grand Lodge, and is still fully committed to that end. However, for many years now some Members have become involved in ceremonials of a civic nature in the City of London.

In addition to all this, six Brethren of one family in the Lodge are all related to a late Founder Member of the Lodge.
